Vintage Outfit: Rouje Denim Jacket, Levi's & YSL Necklace

Double denim is bold, so a simple tank top does the calming. Here's how I wear a vintage Rouje jacket with baggy Levi's and a 1980s YSL medallion for a bit of edge.

How to Style Double Denim With a Vintage YSL Medallion

The easiest way to wear double denim is to keep everything else simple. A plain tank top under a denim jacket, baggy jeans, and one statement piece to finish it. This is how I wear my vintage Rouje jacket with Levi's and a 1980s YSL medallion, and almost every piece in it is secondhand.

How do you style denim on denim?

Denim on denim is already a bold choice, so I let it be the statement and keep the rest quiet. A simple tank top underneath is what makes it work for me: it calms the whole look down and lets the denim do its thing. Then I add one piece with some attitude, which in this case is a necklace.

Wearing a vintage Rouje denim jacket, open or closed

The jacket is Rouje Paris, bought secondhand through Vestiaire Collective a while ago. What I love about it are the subtle details, the kind you notice up close rather than from across the street, and it's what makes a simple outfit feel considered. I wear it both ways with a simple tank top underneath. Open feels relaxed, closed feels a little sharper, and it works either way, which is why it never really leaves the rotation.

Baggy Levi's 501 jeans from Episode in Amsterdam

The jeans are the newest addition. I picked them up recently at Episode on Nieuwe Spiegelstraat in Amsterdam: Levi's, baggy, the kind of fit that makes everything on top look effortless. Amsterdam has so many vintage shops now, and it's fun to see how normal secondhand has become as an alternative to buying new and fast fashion. Episode was one of the pioneers, and they've since opened several locations around the city. It's also a good excuse to walk down Nieuwe Spiegelstraat, which is known for its antique shops. And the best part of shopping vintage is that you rarely run into someone wearing the exact same thing.

How to style a vintage statement necklace

The finishing touch is a vintage Yves Saint Laurent necklace from the 1980s, with an octagonal pendant and the iconic YSL logo right in the middle. It's a real eye catcher, and it gives the whole look an edge that a simple denim outfit wouldn't have on its own. My rule for a statement necklace like this: give it room. Denim and a plain tank top are the perfect backdrop, because nothing else is competing for attention. One statement piece, and let it do the work.
